Youth Orchestra Music Director
GCSYO is a per-semester program with tuition being $85.00 for each semester.
Students between the age of 13-20 are welcomed to join the Youth Orchestra to enhance their classical music abilities. Auditions are held in August and January before the start of each semester.
Rehearsals are mandatory and will be every Wednesday after the school day. Rehearsals will be located at Gulfport High School in the music wing.
Started in 2001, the Gulf Coast Symphony Youth Orchestra (GCSYO) is dedicated to the orchestral training of 52 Mississippi Gulf Coast students. Tuition to perform with the Youth Orchestra is $85.00/Semester, if a student wishes to perform and is eligible for scholarships, the Gulf Coast Symphony Board of Directors will cover the cost of the student or another donor from the membership.
The philosophy guiding the GCSYO is to lay the foundation for life-long learning and appreciation of the arts, enhance school music education program, build future audiences, and improve the quality of life on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
Concerts are performed per-semester for the Youth Orchestra. They also join the professional orchestra on stage at the Holiday Peppermint Pops concerts playing side-by-side on a few select pieces.
Our Youth Orchestra is also the premier orchestra for our Link-Up program. We, along with several other orchestra in the world, have partnered with Carnegie Hall to bring music to students in grades 3-5. With these programs, these young musicians will learn how to play recorder and sing in their classes and join us in a play and sing along concert! This year, we will be having our Link-Up concerts in the first week of March and they will be open to the public to come experience the joy of what music education is all about!
The youth orchestra is always available for other gigs outside of playing concerts. We have gathered small ensembles to perform for different church services, background music for different events and so on. If you would like for our youth orchestra to play at your event please contact Mr. Daniel Martinez.
