Barbecue Under the Oaks
20 Years and Still Smokin' is the theme for "Barbecue Under the Oaks" on Saturday, March 29. 2008 will mark the 20th anniversary of this popular event which benefits the Gulf Coast Symphony Orchestra.
The site of Barbecue Under the Oaks is beautiful Oaklawn in Pass Christian. Located south of I-10, a short distance from Exit 24 on Menge Avenue, the event features food and fun for all ages. More than 20 teams of ribmeisters, some who have been on board since the first barbecue, prepare a fabulous selection of smoked and barbecued meats, oysters, fish, chicken and wild game.
The Gulf Coast Symphony Guild provides all the trimmings and delicious desserts. A children's area is loaded with activities including a space walk, pony rides, and face painting. Entertainment is provided, as well.
A silent auction will be held, with over 150 items available for bidding. This year's grand prize raffle is a stay at The Alluvian hotel in Greenwood, MS, with a class at the famous Viking Cooking School. Raffle tickets are $5 each or 6 tickets for $25. Purchase of raffle tickets entitles drawings for over 100 door prizes. Raffle tickets may be purchased prior to the event and will be available on-site.
Barbecue events are scheduled 11:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Tickets are $30 in advance and $35 at the door. Children ages 3-10 are $10.
