Classics III Musical Tales
March 19, 2016 – 7:00pm
Saenger Theatre
We’ll be telling stories with music at the March concert, ranging from classic Shakespeare (Romeo and Juliet) to modern myths (Star Wars). Along the way we’ll visit some opera (the famous William Tell Overture of Rossini), some evocative French poetry (music of Debussy), and a raucous Spanish party. This is a wide-ranging and easy-to-listen-to program – perfect for both symphony newcomers and long-time veterans.
Rossini: Overture to William Tell
Mussorgsky: Night on Bald Mountain
De Falla: Suite No. 2 from The Three Cornered Hat
Tchaikovsky: Romeo and Juliet
Debussy: Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun
Williams: Star Wars (Leia’s Theme and Main Title)
Program Notes from Peter Rubardt, Music Director
